Micrographic Surgery and Dermatologic Oncology Fellowship

Mission

The UF Department of Dermatology, Micrographic Surgery and Dermatologic Oncology Fellowship (MSDO) is a one-year ACGME accredited training program whose mission is to train future Mohs and dermatologic surgeons, who can advance the field of Dermatologic Oncology and Mohs Surgery and help meet the health needs of the Northern Florida population/patients. The program is intended to train ACGME-accredited dermatology program graduates in Mohs surgery and procedural dermatology.

Aims

  • Train a Mohs surgeon who can provide top quality Mohs micrographic and other dermatologic surgery services to patients.
  • Advance the field of dermatologic oncology, Mohs micrographic surgery and dermatologic surgery through participating in scholarly activity, at the local and national level.
  • Provide a cadre of dermatologists with advanced dermatologic surgery, Mohs micrographic surgery, dermatologic oncology and other procedural dermatology training who can teach and direct the surgical training requirements for dermatology residents and future MSDO trainees.

The training program involves University of Florida Department of Dermatology outpatient clinical sites and the Malcom Randall VA dermatology clinic.

Requirements for Scholarly Activity

  • At least one IRB approved clinical research project relevant to dermatologic surgery with the program director. Research should be submitted for publication in a peer-reviewed journal before completion of training. Additional research is encouraged.
  • Quality improvement project relevant to dermatologic surgery.
  • At least three dermatologic surgery lectures to the dermatology residents.
  • Submission of an abstract for a national or state meeting before completion of training.

Application Requirements

We require that all applicants pass USMLE steps 1, 2, and 3.

By start of fellowship, the applicant must be board-eligible or board-certified in dermatology.
